Dear Supporters,
The Board of Directors, are announcing today that we, Ottawa Polonia Inc. & St. Hyacinth Foundation Inc., had put in a very great effort to rent and lease our building, and rent monthly parking spaces as well as do fund-raising for the Ottawa Polonia Centre. This was the new vision and the future for us to grow in our Polish Community. We needed the whole Polish Community financial support to cover the mortgage payments and operating costs for this opportunity. It was costing us $11,650 monthly to maintain the Polonia Centre. Only 10% of the active community supported this while the other 90% did not give anything to assist us. We were forced to sell the property to TMS International Inc. (Gladstone Sports and Health Centre). We had to pay commercial property tax to the City of Ottawa from the original purchase date, large commercial Enbridge Gas bills, etc. while funds did not flow in to cover them. We are happy that we are able to refund all the members with their full amounts given to support us from the start. After all said and done, we are saddened with the Polish Community that a great opportunity to create a senior citizen residence, etc. and parking had to be given up. Plans were made - we sent out information bulletins, held meetings, and appeared on polish television program but still we were forced to sell this property. Mortgages had to be repaid to the lenders. We had negociated with the new owner to have right of use for parking at the school for our church services while they operate their business. We also want to thank all the working committee members for their hard work & understanding. Any remaining money from sale will be held in trust for possible future projects.
